    (Name of your organization) joins largest-ever planned-giving effort


    (Name of your organization) has joined LEAVE A LEGACY® Summit/Portage/Medina, a new program that works to create awareness, raise interest and motivate individuals to make charitable planned gifts. This is believed to be the largest collaborative effort ever undertaken here in support of philanthropy.


    At its heart, LEAVE A LEGACY seeks to educate community members about how to make charitable bequests and to inspire them to do so. National research shows that fewer than eight out of 100 households plan to leave anything to charity. This program seeks to increase that number and to establish charitable estate planning as a social norm.


    More than 100 nonprofit organizations, banks, law firms, accounting firms, and investing and financial planning firms have pledged financial help and volunteer time. Additional nonprofits and allied professionals are expected to become partners in this project.


    The local effort is modeled after a successful pilot program developed by Columbus’ Greater Ohio Planned Giving Council in 1996. More than 150 groups in 47 states are replicating the highly successful pilot, while tailoring the program to their local communities.

    LEAVE A LEGACY® Summit/Portage/Medina is a community-wide marketing effort whose goal is to increase the awareness of gift planning opportunities by the general public. This type of broad-based approach is cost-prohibitive for most nonprofit organizations. As a member of the nonprofit community, you are well aware it is very difficult for nonprofit organizations to reach a large percentage of their planned giving prospects with marketing materials. LEAVE A LEGACY Summit/Portage/Medina is designed to complement current marketing efforts and reinforce the message.
