LEAVE A LEGACY is a collaborative effort among non-profits, financial professionals and the media to create awareness, raise interest and motivate individuals to make charitable planned gifts The Summit/Portage/Medina LEAVE A LEGACY® currently has 81 partnerships that support the organization. It targets the general public with the message that anyone can leave a legacy to support his or her community while still caring for loved ones.
Voices of Giving Awards Honor the "Jewels of our Communities"
LEAVE A LEGACY® Summit/Portage/Medina hosted its fifth annual Voices of Giving Honors Awards at The Martin Center on Thursday, June 26, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The event pays tribute to individuals in Summit, Portage and Medina Counties who out of selflessness, generosity and foresight, have chosen to leave a bequest or planned gift to their favorite charitable organization. The following individuals were recognized:
Allene J. Fodor - American Heart Association Dick & Thelma Leppo - Laurel Lake Foundation George & Edna Rammel - The Salvation Army of Summit County Area Donald E. Tubbs - Society for Handicapped Citizens of Medina County
A special award recognized one exemplary nominee as the "Crown Jewel" for going above and beyond their generosity as a donor by becoming actively involved in their charity of choice. A Committee choose Dick & Thelma Leppo as the Crown Jewels for this year. The nominee´s organization was presented a check for $500. This money is being underwritten by the Lisle M. Buckingham Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation.
Probate Court Study
A Probate Court Study has been funded by the GAR Foundation of the Akron Community Foundation. The study was researched and prepared by an intern Dawn Greathouse, a Paralegal from the University of Akron. This is a follow-up from the Baseline Study that was produced for the 2002 year.
