The Richard and Joyce Fowler Family
Nominated by the Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation
Richard (Dick) and Joyce Fowler of Kent demonstrated a strong commitment to giving back to their community, actively supporting several organizations in the Portage County Area. Their generosity included Robinson Memorial Hospital, where they often cited the exceptional physical and emotional care they received from doctors and staff. Joyce was a volunteer and a member of the Auxiliary of Robinson Memorial Hospital. Dick, who co-founded Emtech – Emulsion Technologies, Inc., was an active member of the Robinson Memorial Foundation’s Board for fourteen years.
During their lifetimes, Dick and Joyce directed leadership gifts from their Fowler Family Charitable Fund in support of Robinson Memorial Hospital’s Oncology program. Their generosity assisted the purchase of equipment, such as a blanket warmer for cancer patients, and for renovations to the nurses’ break room on the oncology unit. When Joyce died in 2007, Dick and their two sons Steven and Jeffrey, created a restricted fund within the Robinson Memorial Foundation to support the oncology unit. A plaque was placed on the oncology wing in loving memory of Joyce.
The exceptional generosity and quiet dignity that both Dick and Joyce demonstrated in their support of Robinson Memorial Hospital is now being continued through Steven and Jeffery. In 2014, the hospital identified a need to renovate the Oncology Lounge, originally established by the Auxiliary of Robinson Memorial Hospital, of which Joyce was a member. The Oncology Lounge was created to provide a comfortable private space for family members of patients and for support ground meetings. When Steven and Jeffrey found out about the need, they offered to fund the renovation of the Oncology Lounge, honoring their parents’ legacy of giving back.
